POKOTABI / Soba Oomuraan
目白 大村庵
Situated along Mejiro-dori, Soba Oomuraan serves tender, thick-cut katsudon, chilled age-mochi oroshi soba, kamo seiro, and an array of comforting neighbourhood soba staples in a calm setting.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
When an afternoon calls for a truly filling meal, a soba shop’s katsudon (fried pork cutlet rice bowl) rarely disappoints. At Soba Oomuraan, set along Mejiro-dori, the pork cutlet bowl is a regular draw for its tender, generous slab of pork encased in a savoury crust that holds its own under the egg. For those wanting a lighter portion, the menu also includes an usugiri (thin-sliced) katsudon, catering easily to different appetites.
The soba itself remains the centrepiece, prized for its firm texture paired with dashi-rich broth. Cold selections provide plenty of variety, from chilled age-mochi oroshi featuring crisp fried rice cake in grated daikon broth, to kamo seiro made with Aichi duck, or tororo soba bound with grated mountain yam. Finishing the broth with rich, cloudy sobayu (hot buckwheat cooking water) allows you to savour every trace of the dashi.
Inside, the dining room maintains a peaceful, quiet cadence supported by attentive service. Please note that payment is cash only, so it is best to prepare money in advance before dropping in.
